Man, two children die as car plunges into SRSP canal in Warangal

In a tragic incident, a man and his two children died after their car fell into a canal of the Sri Rama Sagar Project (SRSP) on the outskirts of Teegarajupally village in Sangem Mandal in the district on Saturday.

The deceased were Somarapu Praveen, 33, a development officer with the LIC, his daughter Chaitra Sai, 5, and son Saivardhan, 2. Praveen’s wife, Krishnaveni, was rescued by irrigation staff who were engaged in maintenance work at a sluice near the spot. While the body of the boy was recovered soon after the incident, the bodies of Praveen and Chaitra Sai along with their car were retrieved at 200 metres downstream of the canal after a few hours by the police with the assistance of expert swimmers. The incident occurred around noon.

According to reports, the incident happened when Praveen developed chest pain and attempted to reverse his car to return to Warangal. They were on their way to their native village, Mecharajupalli of Parvatagiri Mandal, from Hanamkonda when the mishap happened.
