2 killed, 3 injured as SUV rams into parked lorry in fog on Hyd-Vij highway | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Two persons died on the spot and three others injured when their SUV rammed into a parked lorry at high speed at Narketpally on Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway around 6.30 am on Sunday. The car was mangled beyond recognition due to the impact of the crash. Police suspect the driver failed to spot the parked lorry due to heavy fog.
The five friends from Alwal were on their way to Vijayawada to visit the Kanaka Durga temple.
Narketpally police identified the deceased as K Sai Kumar Goud (32) and Chila Sagaram Sandeep (27), and the injured as D Madhukar, Hareesh, and Shivarathri Praveen, who was at the wheel. All work for private companies.
The three injured were shifted to a private hospital nearby where their condition was said to be stable. While one of the deceased was in the front seat, the other was in the rear. Praveen was saved by the airbag.
“Lorry driver Kasim Vali had parked the vehicle on the side and gone to relieve himself. He was on his way to his native place in Kadapa. There were no hazard lights,” said cop from Chityal.
He added: “Due to thick fog in the morning, we suspect car driver Praveen failed to notice the lorry and drove straight into it at a very high speed.”
A case has been filed against the lorry driver on charges of causing death due to negligence.
The accident, meanwhile, threw traffic out of gear on the busy Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway. Police had to bring in a JCB to tow away the mangled vehicle and clear the road.
