Vijayawada: An ambulance driver had a narrow escape after the vehicle caught fire while moving in Vijayawada city on Sunday. The incident took place when a private hospital received a distress call from a patient’s family and the driver set out to pick up the patient. Alerted by other motorists, the driver immediately stopped the ambulance and got out. As the fire spread rapidly, locals informed the fire department, but by the time firefighters arrived, the ambulance was completely gutted. The intensity of the flames was so high that they spread to a nearby city bus stop, causing further damage. Fortunately, there were no casualties, as no one was inside the ambulance at the time of the accident. However, significant property damage was reported. Police suspect that a short circuit might have triggered the fire. A case was registered and an investigation was launched.
