Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated the development of two new greenfield airports, including a greenfield international airport in Amaravati, the state’s capital city. The Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL) has invited tenders for selecting a consultant to prepare a Techno-Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) for a greenfield airport in Srikakulam. Additionally, they are seeking a consultant for a pre-feasibility study and preparation of a TEFR for the proposed greenfield international airport in Amaravati.
According to the tender notification published on the APADCL website, the last date for submission is March 21. The technical and financial bids will be opened on March 24 and March 27, respectively.
The APADCL has proposed constructing the greenfield airport 70 kilometers from Srikakulam, near the coastline. The corporation has asked consultants to prepare the TEFR study report, identify the technical and economic factors influencing the development and operation of the proposed airport, conduct site-specific surveys and studies, and prepare the concept Master Plan for the project in accordance with the latest applicable guidelines. Additionally, consultants are required to develop a financial model, structure the project, undertake environmental and social impact studies, and facilitate approvals at various stages from relevant government organizations for both proposed greenfield airports in the state.
Earlier, the state government proposed the construction of four new greenfield airports, including the under-construction Bhogapuram International Airport, along with Kuppam and Dagadarthi airports in Chittoor and Nellore districts, with APADCL acting as the project proponent.
The state government stated that the primary need for developing the Amaravati greenfield airport is to establish an independent civil airport in Amaravati. Among the aforementioned airports, Warangal Airport is currently not operational. Amaravati is located approximately 40 km from Greater Guntur, 22 km from Vijayawada, 90 km from Machilipatnam Port, and 35 km from Gannavaram Airport.
