Apple updates the MacBook Air with M4 chip, a new Sky Blue colourway, and lower prices

It was no secret that Apple was about to update the MacBook Air with its new M4 chips and it has finally happened.
The 13 and 15-inch MacBook Airs have both received spec-bump updates, which sees them receiving M4 chips that have 10 CPU cores and up to 10 GPU cores.
Both models will now come with at least 16GB of memory as standard that can be upgraded to a maximum of 32GB. Storage still starts at 256GB and if you want more and have deep enough pockets, it can be upgraded up to 2TB. With the M4 chip, Apple claims the new MacBook Air is up to two times faster than the old MacBook Air with the M1 chip.
Readers with multi-monitor setups will be happy to know that the MacBook Air will support up to two external displays along with its built-in display. The last generation MacBook Air could only drive two external displays if you closed the lid and turned off its built-in display.
Speaking of lids, the FaceTime camera has been upgraded to Apple’s newest 12MP unit that supports Centre Stage and Desk View.
As part of this update, the MacBook Air is also getting a new colourway. Joining Midnight, Starlight, and Silver is a Sky Bluewhich Apple describes as a “metallic light blue” finish. I hope to check that out in person.
The rest of the MacBook Air appears to be largely unchanged. It’s still thin and light, has a Liquid Retina display, and two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports. Sadly, it still only supports Wi-Fi 6E and not Wi-Fi 7.
Overall, the updates are minor, but I doubt anyone will complain about extra performance and lower prices. The new Sky Blue colourway looks cool too. As it stands, it appears the best MacBook for most people got a little better.
Availability and pricing
The new 13 and 15-inch MacBook Airs are available to pre-order starting today and will be available in retail on 12 March.
Apple has also lowered the prices of the MacBook Air. The 13-inch model now starts at S$1,499while the 15-inch model starts at S$1,799. These starting prices are both S$100 less.
You can pre-order the new MacBook Airs on the Apple Online Store. You can also keep a look out for it on Apple’s official stores on Lada and Shopee.
