From corporate boardrooms to bustling markets, from universities to government corridors, Hyderabad came alive for International Women’s Day celebrations on Saturday (March 8).

The city hosted a mix of events — from networking brunches to live performances, art workshops to marathons and walkathons, cultural events to relaxation and self-care sessions, while cafes and restaurants rolled out special discounts and curated menus to mark the occasion.

With the weekend aligning perfectly with International Women’s Day, malls and clubs buzzed with revellers, though many chose to celebrate in their own quiet ways.

Niharika L.s, 27, a freelance content writer, had big plans — an indulgent spa day, a shopping spree, and a lunch outing. But Hyderabad’s heat made her reconsider. “Instead, I ordered my favourite pizza and desserts, curled up with my grandma, and watched her favourite movie,” she shared. “We also did skincare together and sipped Bombay-style masala chai while laughing over an online comedy show,” she chuckled.

For N. Radhika, 25, a software engineer, the day started with a sweet surprise. “My boyfriend brought me a huge bunch of roses, and though he rarely cooks, he made my favourite poha for breakfast and rajma rice for lunch — learning it all from YouTube,” she shared. “He even took over the household chores, so I could finally catch up on my favourite series. It was such a thoughtful way to make the day special,” she smiled.

Aakanksh Revelli, 28, an engineer, made sure his mother felt extra special. “I gifted my mom a gold ring — because a gold-hearted woman deserves nothing less! Every man should cherish the women in his life, not just on Women’s Day but every single day,” he shared. The two spent a day out, catching up on life over some delicious food.

Aditya Kumar, 26, a software engineer, took the day off just to spend time with his sister, who also works in IT. “With our busy schedules, we barely see each other. When I asked what she wanted for Women’s Day, she simply said — my time,” he said. “So, I took the day off just to share a hearty meal with her. With her wedding coming up soon, I’m really glad we made this happen.”

R. Aarti, 25, treated herself to a well-deserved solo date, finally buying the ‘Casio’ watch she had been eyeing for months. “It felt good to finally get it for myself,” she said.

Yet, for many women, the day blended into their usual routines, marked by small office celebrations and messages from loved ones amid work.
