An 800-year-old Kakatiya era doorway, located in Brahmanawada, Hanamkonda, is under threat due to a road widening project, according to Dr. E. Sivanagireddy, Archaeologist and CEO of Pleach India Foundation, and Aravind Arya, a heritage activist and Secretary of the Team of Research on Culture and Heritage (TORCH).
The ancient doorway, which served as an entrance arch of a temple, is a testament to the architectural grandeur of the Kakatiya period. It consists of a sill, two vertical jambs and a beautifully carved lintel. Despite its historical significance, the doorway has been left to neglect, with locals expressing concern over its potential destruction due to the road widening project.
Dr. Sivanagireddy and Arya have appealed to the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) authorities to carefully transplant the doorway inside the nearby Sivalayam temple and preserve it for future generations. They have also recommended removing the existing colours by cleaning them with chemicals to restore the doorway’s original features.s
