Suzuki WagonR is one of the highly popular Kei cars in the Japanese market. The hatchback, currently in its sixth-generation, is now ready to enter into its next generation with a full hybrid powertrain. According to a fresh media report, the new WagonR will feature Suzuki’s hybrid powertrain which includes a 660cc petrol engine and an electric motor, delivering power worth 54PS with 58Nm and 10PS with 29Nm, respectively. The same powertrain setup is offered on the Japan-spec Suzuki Solio.
In Japan, the Suzuki Solio is also available with a 1.2L, 4-cylinder DOHC VVT K12C petrol engine and an WA05A AC synchronous motor. The gasoline unit pushes out a maximum power of 90bhp and 118Nm of torque, while the electric motor makes 3bhp and 50Nm of torque. Transmission options include an e-CVT and AGS.

The new Suzuki WagonR will receive some significant changes inside and out. The report further states that the hatchback will get the sliding doors replacing the conventional rear doors. The seats will also come with multiple customization options. Dimensionally, the new model will continue to measure 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width and 1,650mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,460mm.
Suzuki will also equip the all-new WagonR with some new features. The hatchback currently comes with a touchscreen infotainment with smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, rear seat air vents, multiple cup holders and door pockets, under seat storage trays, manually adjustable front seats, sliding and reclining rear seats, fabric seat upholstery, dual airbags (as standard), ABS with EBD, driver assistance system, rear parking camera and parking sensors.
What’s about the Indian market?
Maruti Suzuki is developing an in-house strong hybrid powertrain for its mass-market offerings including the Fronx, Swift, Baleno and Brezza. This new strong hybrid tech will be introduced with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine, slated to debut with the Fronx by mid 2025. The Indo-Japanese automaker will also bring in a small MPV with the strong hybrid powertrain, which will be based on the Japan-spec Suzuki Spacia.
