Vijayawada: Paving the way for phase-1 construction of the Vijayawada metro, the NTR and Krishna district administrations are gearing up for land acquisition following the state govt’s instructions to proceed with the process.
Approximately 91 acres of land is to be acquired in the combined Krishna district to facilitate the construction in phase-1. The state cabinet has already given its nod for phase-1 construction of metros in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, estimated to cost around ₹11,009 crore and ₹11,498 crore, respectively.
Phase-1 of the Vijayawada metro is proposed to be executed in two corridors: Phase-1A from Gannavaram to Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) and Phase-1B from PNBS to Penamaluru, spanning a total of 38.4 km.
According to the approved detailed project report (DPR), Phase-1A, covering 25.9 km, will be constructed as an elevated corridor for 23 km, while the remaining 2.9 km will be underground. Similarly, Phase-1B, covering 12.5 km, will be entirely constructed as an elevated corridor. A total of 33 stations, including one underground station, will be built as part of these two corridors under phase-1 of the Vijayawada metro project.
According to officials, a major portion of the land will be acquired for the construction of the metro coach depot, which is proposed to be set up at Gannavaram. The extent of land to be acquired for the Phase-1 metro construction in Vijayawada city will be around 30 acres, as the two corridors—Gannavaram-PNBS and PNBS-Penamaluru—will primarily be elevated corridors constructed along road divider medians, requiring fewer land parcels.
It has been learned that most of the acquired land will be used for the construction of metro stations.
Officials have informed that the Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (CALA) will begin holding meetings with landowners whose lands are to be acquired in the two districts.
