TDP MLCs: No Varma, No Radha

Hours before the last day of nominations, Chandrababu Naidu finalized the candidates for the MLA quota MLC elections.

Chandrababu appeared like he let go of the last-minute announcement by announcing the candidates for Assembly elections early but it looks like the old habits die hard and he churned the equations until the last minute.

Kavali Greeshma, Beedha Ravichandra, and BT Naidu are given a chance while TDP leadership bowed down to the pressure of the BJP leadership to allot the last seat to the BJP.

Varma who sacrificed Pithapuram seat for Pawan Kalyan was not given a chance this time too.

Vangaveeti Radha despite not getting to contest in 2019 and 2024 did not join the YSR Congress despite heavy pressure in the last five years. But Radha was not given a chance as Nagababu was given from Janasena.

Chandrababu not asking Pawan Kalyan to balance the caste equations in Janasena and compensating that by depriving seats to TDP Kapu leaders is a joke and that will also disappoint the TDP voters of that community.

Not giving a chance to Varma may ensure a free hand to Pawan Kalyan in Pithapuram.

They were promised a berth in 2027 when the next trench of seats become vacant.

That means they will be empty-handed for three years. They become dummies in their constituencies and if they shift to YSR Congress in 2029 and TDP has to blame itself for this mess.

Kavali Greeshma recently got a nominated post – chairperson of the Women Cooperative Finance Corporation. There is no hurry to send her to council except for balancing the caste equations.

Beedha Ravichandra was an MLC until 2021. He was the former TDP President of Nellore district and was given more hold on the district administration than the local Ministers during 2014-19. He was also the party’s General Secretary.

He could have also waited but probably got one in the BC quota.

And then, BT Naidu just retired and he is getting an immediate re-election.

Varma and Radha who are electorally relevant should have been given a chance ahead of everyone.

But TDP high command preferred to do political posturing by giving all the three seats to 2 BCs and One SC Woman.

Leaving out a seat to the BJP when there are many important aspirants in queue is definitely not in the best of TDP’s interests.

TDP cadre will hope that the BJP high command does not allocate that berth to some anti-TDP leader like Somu Veerraju or Vishnu Vardhan Reddy.
