Assembly discusses land allotted to Reliance in Nellore district

Industries Minister T.G. Bharat has informed the Andhra Pradesh Assembly that the State government is examining the request of Reliance for the development of the area allotted to it as Industrial Parks as per the Andhra Pradesh Policy for the establishment of Private Industrial Parks with ‘Plug and Play Industrial Infrastructure 2024-29 and guidelines issued thereon.

Replying to a question by TDP MLA Somireddi Chandramohan Reddy in the AP Assembly on Monday, the Minister said that the State government has allotted land to an extent of 2635.5 acres in Krishnapatnam and other villages in SPSR Nellore District to Coastal Andhra Power Limited (CAPL) to establish Ultra Mega Power Project (4,000 MW), based on imported coal sought to be supplied from Indonesia. The project was awarded to Reliance Power Limited (RPL), he said.

Recently, M/s RCAPL requested that since the technology for production and optimization of Green Hydrogen & Green Ammonia are still at a nascent stage, the cost of production for Green Hydrogen/Ammonia is significantly higher than the cost of producing Hydrogen/Ammonia from conventional methods and hence are not commercially viable presently and hence, requested to set up a Private Mega Industrial Park with “Plug and Play Industrial Infrastructure as below and requested for change of the land usage for the 2,679.8 acre land. It has also proposed to set up an Integrated Solar Ingot-Wafer, Cell and Module Manufacturing facility and an integrated battery manufacturing facility in the said industrial park, he explained.

Earlier, Mr. Chandramohan Reddy said that it is unfortunate that lands allocated for industries have remained vacant for years. In 2008, 2,600 acres of land near Krishnapatnam in Muthukur mandal were handed over to Reliance for setting up a power project. Since 2008, that land has remained vacant. Considering ₹30,000 per acre, the loss of revenue amounts to ₹9 crore per year.

As per the industrial policy, after land is allocated, industrial operations should begin within two years. Even if two years aren’t enough, operations should at least start within four years. Instead, leaving the land idle for years and forcing farmers and farm labourers into joblessness and hunger is unfortunate. The government was requested that industries be set up in every SEZ, making the sacrifice of farmers meaningful. There are many skilled and educated people in our region. Employment opportunities should be provided to all of them right here, he added.
