Director Lingusamy recently shared an interesting behind-the-scenes story about his hit film Paiyaa (Aawara in Telugu), starring Karthi and Tamannaah. The action-adventure film was a commercial success in both Tamil and Telugu.
Speaking about the casting, Lingusamy revealed that Tamannaah was not the first choice for the female lead. Initially, Nayanthara was finalized for the role, and she had even agreed to be part of the film.

However, due to creative differences and unavoidable reasons, she opted out during the last minute, leading the team to cast Tamannaah instead.
“At that time, Tamannaah was just 19 years old. She was incredibly talented and worked very hard for the film. Since Paiyaa was a travel-based road film, it was difficult to arrange caravans for the actors.

Tamannaah understood the situation and even changed costumes inside a car. The crew would hold sarees around the vehicle to ensure privacy. Her professionalism and dedication amazed me. I was certain she would become a star,” Lingusamy said.
This revelation has sparked discussions among fans, with many appreciating Tamannaah’s commitment to her craft.

Aawara remains one of the most loved road films in Tamil and Telugu cinema, and its songs, composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, continue to be fan favorites. After Aawara, Lingusamy lost track and could never regain his form.
