The last one year has also seen a transformation in the car like never before. The car went in to second year service in bone stock condition except for coding changes. And now it will go to the third year service with a host of modifications

Hit the 30k kms mark on my Slavia
A little short of completing 3 years of ownership, I completed 30k kms on my Slavia even though the usage has come down due to different reasons if not, would have been done earlier. Fortunately, the last three years have been largely uneventful and apart from periodic service and some voluntary visits, I havent faced issues with the car.

I have absolutely loved highway rides on this one and its agility on the highway is something I have only experienced with much expensive and powerful cars. The way it munches miles is something and I feel bad that for majority of the highway travel we do, its the Crysta thats used due to the family size and the Slavia is for my solo travel or with wife/dad. But thats the fun part, the car is best enjoyed with a light load and passengers that wont get terrified by the way it flies low.

The car masks speed like a German big badge, and unless one glances at the speedo, there wont be a sign of the speeds we would be doing. Handling with the steering coded to Dynamic mode is very precise, and there is no need to correct the inputs to any extent. Point a place and the car is there be it forward, sideways or even stop.

The last one year has also seen a transformation in the car like never before. The car went in to second year service in bone stock condition except for coding changes. And now it will go to the third year service with the following list of modifications :

Retrofits:

  • Highline Reverse Camera
  • 12K OPS with PLA(Park assist)
  • Direct TPMS
  • OEM Footwell lighting
  • Boot open via Head unit

The PPF on the car seems to be aging well, with no noticeable yellowing. But due to certain parts requiring replacement due to some minor scratches, I have begun the activity of replacing the PPF as and when a panel most needs it.

The car also got a cosmetic makeover. The side running board got a paint chip off due to a flying stone, and thats when I got interested in the body kit that comes with the Monte Carlo/Sportline variants. I was interested in these elements more from the protection side than the cosmetic side and wanted to order them from Skoda. However I learnt that it comes as a complete kit and it includes a rear spoiler. Individual parts was not available for order and hence, ended up buying the entire kit. It is called the Slavia Aero kit, costed 22k and consists of the following:

  • Front bumper mini lips X 2
  • Rear bumper lower lip
  • Side skirts
  • Trunk lip spoiler

Also, went for complete debadge + dechrome of the car and got the unpainted plastic parts painted. These parts were all over the front and rear bumper and due to hard water, they had turned grey. Hence got the plastic parts, Aero kit and the mirror covers completely painted to a special shade – Since I wanted something other than piano black which will not have color depth and is prone to fading and scratches. The badges were just accumulating dirt and hard water marks so that also had to go.

For this I approached Madhus Bodyshop and thanks to the support from our Tbhpian SunnyBoi, he mixed up a colour that looks like black, but isn’t black actually. Its a very dark shade of green which only shows up when there is bright sunlight. The results are impressive and the car has got a new look from the front.
The shade in bright light:

The main grill is unpainted and looks a bit odd in this image, but I fixed it by cleaning and ceramic coating later. I left the grill as it is since there are chances I might need a new grill a few weeks down the line if the front radar project works out

A video of how the shade actually changes from direct to indirect light – The paintjob by Madhus is also flawless
