Tata Sierra Final Design Patented Ahead of Launch

The home-grown automaker has filed a patent for the production-ready Tata Sierra ICE (internal combustion engine) version, revealing its final design details. The leaked patent image confirms that most of design elements from the concept have been retained, including the rectangular-shaped headlamp clusters, fog lamp assembly and air intake channel under a plastic panel on the lower section of the bonnet. The bumper has large air dam featuring horizontal slats, which look different from the concept.

The SUV also features a silver skid plate with a ribbed pattern and chrome embellishments. The side profile highlights its commanding presence. The production-ready Sierra will have newly-designed alloy wheels with petal-like elements along with the pronounced C-pillar, flush door handles and body cladding. A 360 degree camera will be integrated on the ORVMs.

The interior of the Tata Sierra is yet to be revealed officially. However, we know so far that the SUV will offer a triple screen setup and the Harrier-inspired four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo in the centre. The feature kit of this new Tata SUV is likely to include a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, a JBL sound system, powered front seats with ventilation, dual zone automatic AC unit, front and rear parking sensors, 7 airbags, Isofix child seat mounts, electronic stability control, Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite.

The Tata Sierra ICE version is expected to be offered with a 1.5L turbo petrol and a 1.5L diesel engine, delivering power worth 170PS with 280Nm and 118PS with 260Nm, respectively. Both engines are likely to come with the 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox options. The powertrain details of the Sierra EV are not available at this moment.

The Sierra will be Tata’s answer to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Honda Elevate. Its prices are expected to start round Rs 10.50 lakh for the base variant.
