Maruti Suzuki currently has three subcompact SUVs in its product lineup including the Fronx, Brezza and Jimny. Considering the market’s shift from small cars to subcompact SUVs, the Indo-Japanese automaker plans to launch more models in this segment. While official details of the Maruti Suzuki subcompact SUVs are yet to be revealed, two products are currently in the pipeline. Let’s take a closer look at key details of these upcoming compact SUVs
Maruti Fronx Hybrid
Maruti Suzuki Fronx became India’s top-selling car in February 2025, surpassing the Hyundai Creta and Maruti WagonR. The carmaker is working on its own strong hybrid technology, which is set to debut with the Fronx in the coming months. It will be a series hybrid setup, which includes an ICE (internal combustion engine), an electric motor and a battery. The petrol engine works as an electricity generator powering the electric motor directly or charge the battery. The electric motor will be the sole source of propulsion, while the battery will store electricity from the generator and regenerative braking. Maruti’s own strong hybrid technology will be significantly more cost effective than Toyota’s strong hybrid powertrain, currently offered in the Grand Vitara and Invicto.
If reports are to be believed, the Maruti Fronx hybrid will deliver a fuel efficiency of over 35kmpl, thus making it the most frugal vehicle in the country. The strong hybrid system will be offered with the Swift’s 1.2L K-Series petrol engine. The Fronx hybrid will look exactly similar to its ICE version, expect for the ‘Hybrid’ badging.

Maruti Y43
Maruti Suzuki is working on a new subcompact SUV to challenge the dominance of the Tata Punch in the mini SUV segment. It will also take on the Hyundai Exter. Codenamed Y43, the upcoming Maruti compact SUV is expected to hit roads during 2026 festive season. Under the hood, the Maruti Y43 is likely to feature a 1.2L, 3-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine with mild hybrid technology, borrowed from the Swift hatchback. However, its power and torque figures might differ from its hatchback sibling.
This new Maruti compact SUV is expected to share feature with the Fronx such as a flat-bottom steering, a touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a sunroof, automatic climate control, ventilated seats, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD and many more.
