The Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma, underlined the ambitious plans of Telangana government in his address to the state assembly on the first day of the budget session on Wednesday.
The Governor said through prestigious projects of the government, Hyderabad will transform into the first net-zero city of India.
“The expansion of metro rail networks, the ambitious Musi River Rejuvenation Project, and the development of Future City are set to redefine urban living and economic potential. My government is planning to establish Future City Development Authority to actively promote the planned development of a world-class city that is not only sustainable but aspires to emerge as the first net-zero city in India,” he said.
He went on to talk about the Future City, being actively promoted by the Congress government. Spanning 765 sq. km, the project integrates smart urban infrastructure, sustainable industrial development, and inclusive residential planning, he said. Anchored by AI City, Pharma, and Manufacturing Clusters, along with multimodal mobility and metro access, the Future City is designed to boost economic activity, create employment opportunities, and enhance quality of life, according to him.
“The Future City Development Authority will ensure seamless execution, making this initiative a model for next generation urban development in India,” the Governor said.
In attendance were members of the Legislative Council and Assembly on the first day of the budget session. Former Telangana CM and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President, K. Chandrashekar Rao was also present during the session making an appearance after more than six months. The BRS was critical of the Governor’s speech and alleged that parts of the speech were plain lies.
BRS working president and MLA, K.T. Rama Rao spoke to the media after the Governor’s address.
“For failing to implement a single guarantee, or fulfilling any poll promise, without laying a single brick for a new project and for taking debts of Rs 1,62,000, we thought the Governor would pull up Revanth Reddy (CM) but instead it felt like a speech read out by a party worker from Gandhi Bhavan. They made him tell lies regarding investments too,” he said.
