IIFA 2025 entries have sparked controversy after Sonu Nigam was left out of Best Playback Singer (Male) category despite his superhit song Mere Dholna 3.0 from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

The nominees were Arijit Singh, Karan Aujla, Diljit Dosanjh, Jubin Naatiyal and Mitraz and Jubin Naatiyal Won the Award.

While these guys gave good performances, the exclusion of a veteran like Sonu Nigam has raised many an eyebrow. With his stature and the song’s popularity, many expected him to at least be in the fray.

Sonu Nigam himself hinted at a reason. He referred to an incident where the CM of Rajasthan walked out of his performance mid way, subtly implying that political influence might have played a part.

While there is no concrete evidence to support this, it wouldn’t be the first time external factors have influenced award decisions.

Amaal Mallik’s statement also raises a bigger question are these awards about talent or industry politics and commercial interests?

Over the years, AR Rahman, Kangana Ranaut and even Shah Rukh Khan have questioned the fairness of award shows. If those within the industry doubt them, what should we believe?

Despite being snubbed, Sonu Nigam attended the event and was his usual gracious self.

But the bigger question remains do these awards really matter or is the true measure of success the love and admiration of the audience?
