A delegation of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the ruling party of Tamil Nadu, comprising Minister for Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply K.N. Nehru and Rajya Sabha member N.R. Elango met Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders here on Thursday and invited the party for a meeting on delimitation in Chennai on March 22.
The DMK delegation had a meeting with the BRS leaders in Telangana Bhavan, the headquarters of BRS, and explained about the Southern States’ meet convened by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to discuss the Centre’s planned discrimination against Southern States in the name of delimitation of Parliament seats on the basis of population.
Leaders of the two parties alleged that the Centre was conspiring against the Southern States for implementing the family planning effectively. The Centre’s plan to take up delimitation based on the last Census would render injustice to Southern States by reducing their representation in Parliament.
Working president of the BRS K.T. Rama Rao said party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao had instructed them to participate in the March 22 meeting and a decision would be taken as to who would represent the party at the meeting.
The DMK leaders said Mr. Stalin had been questioning the injustice being done to Southern States by the Centre from the beginning and a joint action plan of the Southern States would be announced after the March 22 meeting.
BRS Leaders V. RAVICHANDRA. D. Damodar Rao, S. Madhusudana Chary, V. Prashanth Reddy, G. Jagadish Reddy, R. Chandrasekhar Rao and others participated in the meeting.
