KCR attends assembly sessions amid criticism over his absence

Hyderabad: For the second time since the Congress govt came into power, former chief minister and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao attended the assembly sessions on Wednesday. The assembly sessions began with governor Jishnu Dev Varma’s address. KCR last attended the assembly on the day of the budget speech for the year 2024-25 in July last year.
BRS leaders, including MLAs Kaleru Venkatesh, KP Vivekananda, Gangula Kamalakar, and others, received KCR upon his arrived. It is not clear if KCR will attend the assembly during the entire session and participate in the thanks to the governor’s address or only attend the budget speech on March 19.
KCR’s continued absence during the assembly sessions was raised by chief minister A Revanth Reddy during several meetings. He even asked the leader of the opposition, who has vast experience both as a political leader and ex-CM, to attend the assembly and give suggestions to the govt, if any.
A couple of months ago, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Telangana high court by one D Vijayapal Reddy, general secretary of the Federation of Farmers Association, seeking direction for the BRS leader to attend the assembly sessions. The petitioner said that with his continued absence, people who elected him were deprived of having their grievances raised in the assembly.
