It seems like success has taken over the mind of Sunny Deol. There is no doubt that he made a big comeback with Gadar 2 in 2023. But it seems like he has now started avoiding small-budget projects that were launched a long time ago.

Two of his films, Soorya and Baap, are still on hold, and as per the latest reports, the former has been reportedly shelved after 80% of it completed filming. Notably, the shooting of Soorya started in 2022 but came to a halt due to financial issues.

Soorya is being helmed by Deepak Mukut and while the director attempted to continue shooting, things did not work out as planned for unknown reasons.

The other film Baap is directed by Ahmed Khan and it also features Sanjay Dutt in the lead alongside Jackie Shroff and Mithun Chakraborty. Compared to Soorya, Baap did not enter the filming stage since the lead actors could not unite due to scheduling problems.

Sunny had possibly opted to avoid the films since they are remakes. While Soorya is a remake of the Malayalam film Joseph, Baap is seemingly an adaptation of The Expendables.

Remakes are not working anymore in Bollywood and it seems like Sunny is not willing to compromise in any manner.

Apart from this, Ahmed Khan does not have a very good track record as a director. Everyone knows how he misused Tiger Shroff’s stunts in films like Baaghi 3 and Heropanti 2, creating over-the-top sequences.

Although Ahmed is also directing Welcome to the Jungle, the fate of the film remains uncertain.

Although Sunny is seemingly taking more interest in big-budget films, he should stick to small-budget films since he does not have enough popularity in today’s world compared to the stardom that he enjoyed during the ‘80s and ‘90s.

For now, the one film that he should focus on right now is Gadar 3, which has the potential to survive at the box office considering the popularity of the first two films.
