Vijayawada: Around 250 students from NTR College of Veterinary Sciences, Gannavaram, staged a protest at Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada on Thursday, demanding an increase in the stipend paid to veterinary students during their internship period. The Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) students highlighted the pay disparity between veterinary science interns and MBBS and ayurvedic interns, who receive higher stipends.
According to Jampala Narasimha Rao, a veterinary science student, the current stipend for veterinary science interns is Rs 7,000, which has not been increased for 13 years. Although the govt agreed to enhance the stipend to Rs 10,000, the students are demanding a further increase to Rs 25,000, on par with MBBS and ayurvedic interns.
