
Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla and other districts could experience rise in temperatures on Saturday (March 15, 2025), as per an alert from India Meteorological Department issued on Friday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday (March 14, 2025) has issued a yellow heatwave alert to several districts in Telanganawarning of rising temperatures over two days – Friday and Saturday.
According to the IMD’s special bulletin, the districts of Adilabad, Jagtial, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, and Mancherial are expected to experience temperatures ranging between 41°C and 44°C on Friday. The alert extends to Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, and Rajanna Sircilla for Saturday (March 15, 2025) in addition to the previously mentioned districts.
Meanwhile, other regions, including Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, Karimnagar, and Warangal, are likely to see temperatures fluctuate between 36 and 40°C, according to the bulletin.
Criteria for declaring a heatwave
A heatwave is officially declared when the maximum temperature surpasses 40°C or when there is a temperature anomaly of 4.5°C to 6.4°C above normal. A severe heatwave is declared if the deviation exceeds 6.4°C or if the actual temperature rises beyond 45°C.
IMD advises precautionary measures
The IMD has urged residents to take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the heatwave. Citizens were advised to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, remain hydrated, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and outdoor workers, were particularly cautioned against the soaring temperatures.
