Blast in upcoming restaurant injures 6 | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A flash fire at an upcoming restaurant located inside the GAR IT Park in Kokapet, Hyderabad, injured six people on Saturday evening. According to the police, the incident occurred around 5 pm in block number six and is believed to have been caused by either a gas leak or an electrical spark.
“There was no fire or smoke when we arrived. From the initial investigation, we came to know that flames errupted from the gas pipeline due to a build-up of vacuum pressure during installation. The injured sustained flash burns,” a senior officer from the Narsingi police station told TOI.
The kitchen, which had not yet been opened to the public, was spread across 2,000 square feet. However, the restaurant had also not obtained a trade license from the municipal body, according to the police.
The six injured individuals included the restaurant owner, Rakesh from Warangal, and five others: Shaik Rizwan (18), Mohammed Anwar (34), Farooq Mallik (35) from West Bengal, K Raju from Ramchandrapuram, and Shiva Durga Prasad from Samarlakota of Andhra Pradesh. The three persons from West Bengal are employees working in the restuarant.
“Among the victims, Prasad suffered severe burns (50%), while the others sustained 20-25% burns. All were rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment,” the officer said.
“There were several people inside the building when the incident happened. After rescuing the injured persons initially, police were alerted. The restaurant management used glass to build walls, and they have been mostly damaged. The other furniture in the restaurant besides the equipment in the kitchen was damaged,” said the officer. Police said the investigation is still being done.
The GAR Towers, a large multi-storied business complex within the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), houses over 22 towers with many IT company employees. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
