Enzo Maresca praises Mathis Amougou in training session

We love the Chelsea training videos and seeing what we can glean from them ahead of big games like our one against Arsenal tomorrow.

They’re never going to give too much away about what they’re preparing, but you get a little taste of the mood at Cobham. The session in today’s video was very focused on the basics – pass and move.  There were lots of drills involving rotating around different stations after laying the ball off.

Manager Enzo Maresca even got stuck in himself, getting the ball into play to start the drills and barking orders and praise as it his style.

We noted him saying “bravo Mathis” to January arrival Mathis Amougou, as well as praising Romeo Lavia who is on his way back from injury. We doubt either of them will get many minutes tomorrow, but it’s great for the squad in general to have recovered some central midfield depth.

You can see it all in the clip embedded here:

Chelsea’s central midfield prepare for major physical battle against Gunners

The people who definitely will get plenty of midfield action today are the usual starters Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. They were pictured in the gym in the second half of the video, and we hope they’re had their protein shakes too.

Arsenal have become a really physically dominant team under Mikel Arteta, and it’s one area where we’ve failed to compete in recent seasons. We embarrassed ourselves in this fixture a year ago losing 5-0 – now it’s time to show how much we’ve improved.

Caicedo and Enzo both started that game, and they even had Conor Gallagher there to help out. Maresca will need to replace Gallagher’s running with more control or we risk losing again, even though the Gunners have lost the firepower they had this time a year ago.
