Vijayawada: Guntur mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu resigned from his position with a year left in his tenure. The YSRCP leader, who was elected as mayor in 2021, was engaged in a dispute with municipal commissioner Puli Srinivasulu, which was affecting the administration.
Additionally, during the GMC standing committee elections in February, TDP and Jana Sena corporators won six seats, significantly shifting the balance of power. Some YSRCP corporators also aligned with the TDP-Jana Sena alliance, making it difficult for the ruling party to maintain control.
With a standing committee meeting scheduled for March 17, there were speculations about a possible no-confidence motion against Manohar Naidu. Faced with the likelihood of losing his position, he opted to resign rather than be forced out. Sources said the NDA alliance may nominate a mayor candidate in the place of Manohar.
