Hyderabad: An unknown man threw acid on an accountant of the Sri Bhulakshmi Ammavari Temple at Saidabad.
The victim has been identified as Narsingh Rao. Protest rocked the area after the attack. Devotees and leaders of Bajarang Dal and the BJP joined the protests.
According to Saidabad police, Narsingh Rao, a resident of Lakshmi Nagar Colony in Saidabad, had been working at the temple for several years. On the night of the attack, Rao was performing his duties when a man approached him, claiming that he wished to perform an archana and homas at the temple. As Narsingh Rao was preparing the receipt book, the attacker suddenly threw acid on him from a bottle he was carrying.
The assailant then fled the scene on a motorcycle. Locals and worshippers, alarmed by the attack, quickly gathered at the temple and demanded immediate justice. Devotees, along with Hindu organizations, staged protests, calling for the arrest and punishment of the attacker.
Sensing trouble, police increased security around the temple. Narsingh Rao was rushed to Malakpet Yashoda Hospital for treatment, where he is currently receiving care.
Saidabad ACP Venkanna Naik and Inspector Raghavender visited the site of the incident, reviewing CCTV footage from the temple to gather information on the suspect. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
