If you can drive in 4th gear or above, you can get even 12kmpl in the city. On the highways, 14kmpl is easy. The best I got was 15kmpl+ while coming back from Udaipur to Surat

Updates on Fuel Economy
The Mahindra 2.0 Mstallion has been demonized as a gas guzzler. There are people who claim to get 6-7 kmpl in the city and barely 12 kmpl on the highways. This is one of the apprehensions I had when I bought the car. However, having driven it for 9K kms so far over both city and highway roads, I can tell that my numbers are not as bad as they say.
There are multiple challenges to extracting good fuel economy from the car. The first one is the enthusiastic nature of the engine. The surge from the turbocharger just from 1800 RPM is very addictive and almost impossible to resist. The way this car builds up speed is amazing, and that means you will have to brake frequently if you are not careful. The next is the overall weight of the car. This car weighs almost twice as much as a Swift. So it is only fair that you get half the fuel economy of the small hatchback. On top of that, it has got fatter tyres and SUV aerodynamics. Not to forget, the AC needs to work harder to cool a bigger volume.
So what have I got so far? I have used 735L of petrol for 8.7K kms. That comes out as 11.8 kmpl over multiple tankfuls. Most of my runs are within Pune, some Pune-Mumbai trips, and 2 road trips to Goa and Udaipur. This accounts for 50/50 city and highway runs. I did not buy this car for fuel economy, and that is not the way I drive. My driving style is neither conservative nor aggressive. However, I make sure that I minimize braking events by allowing the car to roll as much as possible. The vehicle is always driven with the AC on and the auto start -stop completely turned off. In Pune city, driving in the off hours, I get a fuel economy of 10. If you are stuck in traffic, it can go down to 8. If you can drive in 4th gear or above, you can get even 12 in the city. On the highways, 14 is easy. The best I got was 15+ while coming back from Udaipur to Surat.
If you are planning to downgrade to something like a Creta or elevate for the fuel economy, don’t. Yes, you can get 1-2 kmpl more, but you will lose out on the performance.
