The power steering pump on the Tata Sumo Gold, Victa, Winger and OG Safari is different from the one on the Estate, so no luck at junkyards.

So as is now the norm, there were some unforeseen delays yet again.
But now, the paint work has been completed and the fitting has started. Unfortunately, I’ve received some extremely grainy pictures from the painter, which I’m sharing.
As far as the power steering pump is concerned, I came to know that the one on the Sumo Gold, Victa, Winger and OG Safari are different from the one on the Estate, so no luck with junkyards there. However, a shop in Delhi managed to source a new one for me for INR 6500. However, it came without the pulley and mounting bracket, so the search is now on for those two:
In other news, a minor mishap meant that one of the new headlights broke. Thankfully, my mechanic managed to salvage the lens from the old headlight and pasted it onto the new housing. The old one had damaged reflectors while the new one had broken glass. Managed to make one good headlight out of two bad ones. However, the problem is, I now have one headlight without the black strip at the bottom, while the other one has it:
Here’s a list of what’s done and what needs to be done:
Done:
- Body and paint
- Engine, Clutch, Gearbox
- Brakes
- Suspension
- Fuel supply system
- Cooling system (radiator, hoses etc.)
- Wheels and tyres
What’s left:
- Power steering
- Electrical work (partially done)
- Interiors
- Body fittings (have purchased most of the stuff)
- RTO formalities
I know I’ve already said this a zillion times, but, “A couple of months more I guess!”
