Vijayawada: A minor boy attempted to attack Ongole traffic circle inspector (CI) Panduranga Rao with a knife on Saturday evening, prompting the police to register an attempted murder case against him at the Taluka police station.
According to Ongole Taluka police, the incident occurred near the agriculture market area. CI Panduranga Rao, while travelling in his car, stopped at the market after noticing a heavy traffic jam. As he attempted to clear the congestion, he asked a minor fruit vendor selling bananas to move aside. This led to a heated argument between the officer and the boy, during which the latter allegedly attempted to attack the CI with a knife.
With the help of locals, police managed to apprehend the boy. Following the incident, traffic police cleared fruit stalls from the area. Based on a complaint filed by Traffic SI Malyadri, the Taluka police registered a case of attempted murder against the minor. The police are currently questioning him as part of their investigation.
Meanwhile, senior police officials have launched a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
