The Class X exams started on Monday in a peaceful manner in SPSR Nellore district. A total of 28,846 students appeared out of the 29,230 who had registered their names in 174 centres across the district. The attendance percentage of the appearing students was almost 99 on the first day, District Education Officer (DEO) Raja Balaji Rao said.
The students and their parents were seen in large numbers at the exam centres, an hour before the exam. At some centres, parents argued with the police officials for not allowing them inside the centre. Nellore District Collector O. Anand inspected the exams at ESRM High School in Mulapet.
Apart from him, nine district educational officers, seven district-level observers and 67 flying squads visited the exam centres. The parents of students broke the lock of an exam centre room at Zilla Parshad High School in Vavilla village, Vidavaluru mandal, in Kovur Assembly constituency, as it was not opened till 9 a.m..
When asked about the incident, the DEO said, “The school staff were unable to find the key of the room and the parents tried to break the lock. However, the staff finally located the key in a box and opened it on time. There was no loss of time for the students appearing in the exam. There was no disturbance at any other centre.”
