A school assistant was suspended, while action was initiated against two chief superintendents of exam centres on the first day of the SSC examinations in Kurnool district. Two cases of malpractice were also registered in the district.
According to District Education Officer (DEO) S. Samuel Paul, the chief superintendents of A and B exam centres at the Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) in Holagunda, Pampavati Goud and P. Kabir, were relieved from their duties and attached to Regional Joint Director, Kadapa, after reports surfaced that students in those centres were made to sit on the floor and write their exams. The issue of students writing examinations sitting on the floor came to the notice of District Collector P. Ranjith Basha, following which action was initiated against the chief superintendents.
Meanwhile, the school assistant of ZPHS Jonnagiri, Kesanna, was placed under suspension for violating the rules. According to the DEO, a subject teacher should not be present for the examination of the same subject. Kesanna was found in the examination centre on Monday, the first day of examination, when Telugu examination was being held.
A student resorting to copying was also found in the same examination centre and he was booked for malpractice. Meanwhile, a student was found copying in the CRRM Municipal High School examination centre in the city and booked for malpractice. The invigilator was relieved from examination duties and show-cause notice was served on him.
Meanwhile, the examinations passed off peacefully in Kurnool, Nandyal and Anantapur districts under strict police vigil. Prohibitory orders were imposed near the examination centres and only the school staff and students were allowed near the centres.
Nandyal Superintendent of Police (SP) Adhiraj Singh Rana conducted a surprise inspection at the SPG High School exam centre and supervised the security arrangements. Mr. Adhiraj Singh Rana said students should be frisked thoroughly and only allowed to enter the centres. He said no mobile phones, smart watches or electronic gadgets will be allowed inside the centre and all photostat centres near the exam centres should be closed till the examinations are over.
In Anantapur, police used drones to monitor the situation at examination centres and kept a watch on the traffic flow leading to the examination centres. SP P. Jagadeesh held a meeting with auto drivers and asked them not to take advantage of examinations and charge exorbitantly. He asked the drivers to drop the students safely at the examination centres and back home.
