Visakhapatnam: Several trains are running late on the Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam route as a bridge near Vijayaramaraju Peta in Anakapalle district was damaged when an unknown lorry hit the height gauge, damaging the girder of road under bridge (RUB) No-705 during the early hours of Monday. Due to this, express trains such as Godavari, Visakha, Simhadri, Amaravati, Garibrath, and Mababubnagar reached Vizag station very late.
Following this, Waltair division railway officials arranged an information centre for the convenience of the public.
According to railway authorities, S Varahala Babu, the loco pilot of a goods train, noticed the irregularity in the rails and applied emergency brakes, averting a major mishap. The Vijayawada division railways authorities’ official release stated that the girder of the bridge was not damaged due to a goods train, as rumours were being circulated about the train from Anakapalle to Visakhapatnam colliding with a girder due to heavy loading.
The engineering team swung into action and rectified the anomaly with breakneck speed. The track fit was given at 9.05 am, and train services on the line were restored. They said there was no lapse from the railway’s side, and an unknown lorry hit the height gauge and damaged the girder.
Railway officials swung into action to restore normal services.
