Rahul Gandhi must be credited for passage of BC Bills: Revanth Reddy

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy being felicitated by BC associations for passing the historic bill createing 42% reservations for Backward Classes in local body elections, education and employment.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that credit for the passage of BC reservation bill goes to party leader Rahul Gandhi, as the Congress-led ‘People’s Government’ in the State undertook the caste census to fulfil the promise made by him and cautioned BC leaders against falling prey to false propaganda by Opposition parties.

“The BCs will be at a disadvantage if they don’t counter the forces who are trying to find loopholes in the caste survey to defame the government with a political intent. BCs will face injustice if they obstruct the process at its foundation stage,” he warned, adding that the BC associations working for the upliftment of BC communities should take up the responsibility of promoting this historic decision of the government.

Speaking to leaders of BC communities who met him on Tuesday to express gratitude for enacting two laws that provide a 42% quota to BC Communities, the Chief Minister stated that the caste survey was conducted transparently, with all necessary steps taken to ensure the policy document remains accurate and credible. The document is now a law for the BC quota for political reservations in local bodies and also quotas in education and jobs,” Mr Reddy added.

Mr. Reddy emphasised that Rahul Gandhi had pledged, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, to conduct a caste census in States where the Congress came to power. The CM asked the associations to support Rahul Gandhi so that a similar exercise could be taken up across the country. He suggested that the BC associations conduct a huge public meeting in Telangana and felicitate Rahul Gandhi for fulfilling a dream of decades.

The Chief Minister further stated that local body elections were postponed to ensure that BCs receive their rightful representation. He urged the BC community not to fall into the trap of those seeking political gains under the guise of caste.
