Congress senior leadership has appreciated the Telangana government led by A Revanth Reddy on passing the historic bill related to enhancement of reservations to Backward Classes to 42%.
Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi termed it as a revolutionary step towards social justice that has also dropped a wall of 50% of reservation in the State. “The Congress government has fulfilled its promise to increase OBC reservation in Telangana,” he said in a post on ‘X’.
Mr. Gandhi further said, “I am constantly saying that X-ray – i.e. racial census – can only get backward and deprived communities their proper right. Telangana has shown the way, this is the need of the whole country. There will be caste census in India, we will get it done.”
Lok Sabha member Priyanka Gandhi congratulated the government and extended her wishes to “my brothers and sisters of Telangana.”
She further said “We made this promise to you in the Assembly elections, now we have fulfilled it. This is a very important step taken for social justice, which will empower you socially and economically. We are always with you, for you. Jai Hind, Jai Telangana, Jai Congress.”
Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal said the government’s historic decision to allocate 42% OBC reservations in all spheres is the biggest evidence of the Congress party’s commitment to the social justice mission. He said Mr. Rahul Gandhi has been at the forefront to implementing this nationwide and will continue to pressurise the Centre to conduct a caste census.
