Volkswagen plans to expand its product range with a major focus on the performance-oriented vehicle segment by bringing in GT-badged models. Furthermore, the German automaker will foray into the electric vehicle (EV) space and expand its presence in Tier II and III cities. Following this strategy, VW will soon launch two performance-focused models – the Tiguan R Line and Golf GTI. While the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line will go on sale on 14th April, the Golf GTI will arrive in the coming months. Let’s take a closer look at key details of these upcoming Volkswagen cars.

Volkswagen Tiguan R Line

The Tiguan R Line will be the range-topping variant, which will arrive as a fully imported unit with an estimated price tag of Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). This SUV underpins the MQB Evo platform and could be offered with the more powerful 2.0L turbo petrol engine delivering a maximum power of 265bhp. Transmission duties will be performed by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It will get AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
Compared to the regular model, the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line will look sportier featuring revised bumpers, R Line-specific side panels, larger 19-inch alloy wheels, full-width horizontal LED light strips at the front and rear and a rear spoiler. Inside, the SUV will have sports seats and an ambient lighting package with three light zones and 30 colours.
Volkswagen Golf GTI

The market launch of the Volkswagen Golf GTI is expected to take place in second quarter of 2025 (April – June). The first batch of the hot-hatch will have 250 units. Under the hood, the Golf GTI features a 2.0L turbo petrol engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This motor pushes out a maximum power of 265bhp and 370Nm of torque. The same engine powers the Skoda Octavia RS, which is due for 2025. The VW Golf GTI is capable to do 0 to 100kmph in 5.9 seconds and offers a top speed of 250kmph.
The hot-hatch offers tartan seat upholstery, a steering wheel with red accents and a GTI badge, a 12.9-inch infotainment system with Volkswagen’s latest software interface and better graphics. It also supports a ChatGPT-enabled voice assistant. On the exterior, the VW Golf GTI features the GTI badge on the door, 19-inch five-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels, smoked LED taillamps and a roof spoiler.
