Budget a ‘web of lies’ with ‘zero gains’ for Telangana: KTR, Harish

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and MLAs T. Harish Rao, Sudheer Reddy, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy and others addressing the media after the Telangana Budget presentation in the Assembly on Wednesday.

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao described the budget as “complete betrayal to the people of Telangana who are left with ‘zero gains’”.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, KTR argued that the Budget reflected Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s “inefficiency, incompetence, and administrative failure”.

“The sole focus is sending bags of money to Delhi rather than fulfilling promises made to Telangana,” he alleged. KTR claimed that while the BRS government borrowed ₹4.17 lakh crore over 10 years, Congress amassed ₹1.6 lakh crore in just one year, with no new projects or schemes to justify it.

He mocked the “trillion-dollar economy” claim, saying Mr. Revanth Reddy’s negative policies led to ₹73,000 crore drop in revenue.

The former Minister alleged that Hyderabad has become a “ruined city” with pending works piling up. “Congress’s priority is “Musi lootification” to funnel funds to Delhi, escalating from a 20% to 40% commission regime,” he alleged.

BRS MLA Harish Rao termed the budget “a web of lies and broken promises” reminding that Congress claimed that six pending projects were completed last year and 12 would be completed this year, but not a single project has been completed. Additionally, land acquisition for projects in the northern region is still pending, while in the southern region, the DPR is still being readied.

He said the GSDP growth rate has fallen from 12.9% under BRS to 10.1% under Congress and the per capita income growth was 12.4% under BRS, but has now fallen to 9.6%. He said despite constantly criticising debt levels, the Congress government’s own budget documents show a revenue surplus of ₹5,888 crore last year and ₹2,738 crore this year.

Mr. Harish Rao said the Budget grossly inflated the expectations from Central grants. “It claims Telangana will receive ₹15,729 crore under Centrally Sponsored Schemes while last year’s grants were only ₹5,966 crore. It also claims ₹3,000 crore for MGNREGA, despite last year’s actual allocation being just ₹2,600 crore.”
