Hyderabad: Despite Telangana’s per capita income (PCI) being 1.8 and 1.6 times higher than that of India’s per capita income at both current and constant prices, respectively, Socio-Economic Outlook 2025 flagged the stark economic disparities across the state, with development heavily skewed toward a few urban districts. Rangareddy (Rs 10,55,913), and Hyderabad (Rs 5,54,105), are the only districts with PCI significantly above the state average of Rs 3,46,457.
For the year 2024-25, as per the advance estimates released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), per capita income at current prices is Rs 3,79,751, with a growth of 9.6% over the previous year. At constant prices, the value is estimated at Rs 1,87,912 registering a growth of 6.2% over the previous year.
The SCO remarked that few districts benefit from strong industrial, IT, and service sector growth, as well as proximity to the state capital, which drives high-income levels. In contrast, many of Telangana’s districts continue to lag behind, with many reporting per capita income far below the state average.
Notably, Vikarabad, despite its proximity to Hyderabad, has the lowest PCI, highlighting the failure to distribute economic benefits evenly. “Similarly, other districts, such as Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Hanamkonda reflect Telangana’s uneven growth trajectory, whereas urban hubs prosper while large rural and semi-urban regions remain neglected. The data exposes the widening economic gap, raising concerns about inclusive development. While Telangana showcases strong overall economic growth, the failure to ensure equitable prosperity across districts points to the urgent need for targeted policies and investments to bridge these glaring disparities,” SCO said.
