Hyderabad wins big as McDonald’s selects city for India office and Global Centre

Hyderabad: McDonald’s, the American multinational fast food giant, has announced plans to establish its India office and a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad. The decision was made following a meeting between McDonald’s Chairman and CEO, Chris Kempczinski, and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

According to the Chief Minister’s office, the India office will begin with an initial workforce of 2,000 employees. The government emphasised that Telangana successfully secured the deal after competing with other states. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy personally ensured the best possible offering to McDonald’s to secure a positive outcome.

Kempczinski explained that Hyderabad was chosen over other cities such as Bangalore due to its high-quality talent pool, excellent infrastructure, and superior living standards. “Hyderabad stood out because of the top-tier talent, infrastructure, and quality of life,” he said.

As part of the investment, McDonald’s will establish the Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad, which will function as a hub for training human resources not only for McDonald’s India operations but also for its centres worldwide.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted Telangana’s unmatched skilling initiatives over the past 15 months, encouraging McDonald’s to take advantage of the state’s Young India Skills University to source skilled employees for both their global office and restaurant operations across the country.

Additionally, Reddy offered to source all agricultural produce required by McDonald’s from the local farming community, which would benefit the state’s agricultural economy and improve farmers’ incomes.

Kempczinski also spoke about McDonald’s global community development programmes and assured that they would deepen their initiatives in Telangana in collaboration with the state government.

Accompanying Kempczinski were Skye Anderson, President of Global Business Services, Jon Banner, Chief Global Impact Officer, and Deshant Kaila, Head of GBS India.

Currently, McDonald’s operates 38 outlets in Telangana through its Indian business partner and plans to open 3-4 new outlets annually, including in tier-two and tier-three towns.
