Miscreants attack police with stones in NTR district, four injured | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: A tense situation unfolded in Penuganchiprolu of NTR district on Monday night, as a few miscreants attacked police officers with stones, injuring four of them. The violent incident occurred during the Tirupatamma Temple’s annual celebrations when police halted a chariot (prabha) belonging to YSRCP sympathisers near the police station while other chariots were already heading towards the temple through a different route. Enraged by the police intervention, miscreants reacted aggressively, pelting stones and attacking officers on duty.
During the attack, Jaggaiahpet CI Venkateshwarulu sustained a head injury, while three other police personnel also suffered serious wounds. The injured officers were immediately shifted to the Nandigama govt hospital for treatment.
As the violence escalated, the police equipped themselves with helmets and safety gear and took control of the situation. Senior officials, including ACPs Tilak, Rama Chander, and Prasad Rao, along with CIs Venkateshwarulu and L. Naidu, intervened to restore order at the scene.
Home minister Vangalapudi Anita strongly condemned the attack, expressing outrage over the assault on law enforcement officers. She directed Vijayawada police commissioner S V Rajasekhar Babu to register cases against all those responsible for the violence. The minister also inquired about CI Venkateshwarulu’s condition and instructed officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured personnel at Nandigama Hospital.
Anita issued a stern warning, stating that attacks on police officers will not be tolerated. She emphasised that law enforcement personnel were only performing their duty, and any attempts to disrupt law and order would be dealt with strictly.
