The TD of the new Dzire really left a solid impression in my mind and I’ve been really thinking whether I should pull the trigger and gift one to my parents.

I just happened to walk inside a MS Arena showroom today and checkout the new Dzire, before anything else I must give a huge credit to Suzuki in making the 4th gen Dzire so better that it compelled me to visit a MS showroom after years, IIRC my last visit to a MS dealership was back in 2011 when I went there to checkout the WagonR which my parents eventually bought as a replacement to their 2001 MS800 MPFi, I never liked Maruti cars TBH just because they’re so common, built to a cost and lack any enthusiasm and if anything had totally written them off from my list whenever I would buy any car but things took a drastic turn with this 4th gen Dzire especially with its perfect 5star GNCAP rating and fresh new looks which actually changed my mind and made me interested into Suzuki cars once again and that’s a half battle won IMO!
Anyways coming back to the actual visit, the initial vibe of the showroom was anything but Maruti and it’s changed very little since my last visit of 2011, yes everything is modernized according to their new Arena theme but still like before there were more customers than SAs who were sadly overburdened with customers, the guy who was assigned to me could hardly give attention to my queries since 90% of the time he was on phone striking several deals, not that I minded since I was a casual agenda-less customer and did not want him to lose any deal because of me and he was kind enough to provide me a TD of the new Dzire and quotation of the same, rest being a car crazy guy found it all by myself.
Coming to the TD, the Dzire is a beautiful looking car, first of all, I’ve to say especially in the Maroon shade which the dealership provided, the straight, sharp lines look so elegant it literally seems to have taken inspiration from VW school of design, the side profile too looks really much better integrated for what’s a compact sedan and rear while good could’ve done with a wider tail-light(like Amaze) and fatter 195 rubber manages to look very decent for what’s a compact sedan.
The menacing yet beautiful front! Really loved the headlights, I drove it during dusk hours but still the throw seemed good but I’m expecting it to be overshadowed by Amaze since the latter is equipped with Bi-Projector LEDs inherited from it’s elder brother, Elevate.
The rear too seems good but wider tail-light and fatter rubber would have definitely made it even better and proportionate to the absolute jaw-dropping frontend!

The typical Arena themed keyfob though I like the Honda’s keyfob more, which looks and feels much more premium than Maruti’s
On the inside I was expecting the car to be an AMT since it’s a popular choice in what’s the 4th most congested cities of the world but I was overjoyed when I saw a good old 5speed manual box with a proper 3 pedal setup, it made me so much happy that I totally overlooked aspects like large touchscreen, sunroof etc , maybe I’m old enough for a generation where gizmos matter more than actual driving but I’m from a generation for whom driving a good old manual car gives sheer happiness than riding a video game parlour on 4 wheels!
Please note I do have a 2011 MS WagonR VXi pure petrol at my home which is my dad’s car and only petrol car in my garage as of now, that’s a K10B 3cylinder too and I was ready to experience a similar thrummy, vibey startup in the new Dzire but man, I was so wrong! If anything I hardly felt any vibes or gruffness with the Dzire’s new 3cylinder engine. The reason for this I guess is obviously modern technological advancements and use of very thin engine oil since the new engines have tighter tolerances than older ones, for reference my dad’s WagonR uses 5W30 oil whereas newer Suzuki petrol cars use as thin as 0W16 oil!!
So for those who are just rejecting the Dzire cause it’s having a 3cylinder engine and thinking it will be having a very unrefined and vibey engine note, do checkout the car once, you’ll be hard pressed to find flaws in NVH of the engine of new Dzire.
Coming to the interiors, once again a very nice effort done by MSIL to thoroughly modernize the interiors of the new Dzire, the multilayer dashboard looks good even though quality was typically Maruti, which is to say, mixed bag though in feature Maruti has left no stone unturned to really stuff in the Dzire with a hell lot of gizmos, you’ll be almost hard pressed to think if you’re sitting inside a Hyundai by seeing the features on offer, some notable mentions include 10.1″ touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity, Suzuki Connect telematics, wireless charger, a really bone chilling Auto A/C with rear vents, powerful LED headlight with LED foglights and of course a big draw, in the segment, a sunroof, now sunroof is more of a gimmick than anything else and that’s coming from a person owning sunroof equipped car for past 16years perhaps and also having a panoramic sunroof equipped SUV. Still it’s what market demands and MSIL has given one, the size and aperture is adequate considering the size of the car.
Small Note to readers- As you can guage my excitement of driving a manual I totally forgot to take pics of the interiors but to compensate I have left a promise to you readers in the end!)
Now coming to the actual drive experience, man the moment I pressed the clutch and slotted 1st, I was literally SOLD for new Dzire, it’s literally feather light, man Suzuki does know the nasty traffic conditions of our ever increasing traffic and congestion in our cities and accordingly has given such a nice, smooth, with really short travel and did I say FEATHER LIGHT clutch, the gears too were having short throws and slotted perfectly, in fact if I buy the Dzire it would be the manual for me, with such a smooth clutch and gearbox who requires an AMT!?
The drivability is fantastic, even though the engine is down on power according to spec sheets, the low end torque delivery is excellent, almost diesel like, you can potter around city with very less gear shifts which is a BIG DRAW against its arch rival the Amaze with its 1.2 i-VTEC which even though high on sheer horsepower suffers from poor low end torque just like it’s elder brother 1.5 i-VTEC, you need to rev them past 4000rpm to get some VTEC fun but let’s be honest, would you want to do it during your daily commutes through our congested cities, also I feel in steep ghats the Dzire would easily manage in say 2nd while you’ve to slot between 1st/2nd in the Amaze going by their nature, now don’t get me wrong the 1.2 i-VTEC is one of the better engines and being a proper 4 cylinder would definitely be better than 1.2 Z12 of Suzuki in terms of NVH but the latter seems to favour low end drivability and resultant higher fuel efficiency as compared to i-VTEC which involves greater driver involvement from the driver. The choice is definitely yours, but if I had to choose a manual petrol compact sedan I would favour the Dzire and this comes from a big and I mean really BIG fanboy of Honda not just for their cars but also for their motorcycles, engines, F1 and MotoGP(yesteryear) achivements, also if you are tilting towards automatic transmission equipped car, I would suggest you to go with the Honda, reason being simple CVT>>AMT, also do consider the VX CVT variant of the Amaze since as of now its costing is <10L ex-showroom and has most of the goodies except ADAS tech which is a big draw for people residing in states like TS, KL etc.
The entire drive even though was confined in the urban scenario only, I did get some empty spaces to cover the traffic gaps and I must say the engine wasn’t underpowered at all, I could easily manage good speeds if I wanted to and car delivered just that without too much fuss and I expect it to achieve regular highway speeds of 80/100kmph easily post which it would definitely start to run out of steam but as a driving tool, it’s really good and I personally couldn’t find flaws with the powertrain of the new Dzire.

Really appreciate if you’ve reached till this point of my short review of the new Dzire and I promise to whoever reading this post of mine, whichever car I get for my parents I would pen down a review to my best of abilities since I never did one for either of my cars.
PS- Just before visiting the showroom I finalised a deal of acquiring one of my childhood dreams, which I could not fullfill as an adult till now but today I did which is purchasing a motorcycle and guess what it’s a Suzuki too!
