Ahead of the 18th edition of Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) matches to be held in Hyderabad, the Rachakonda police Friday announced that a total of 2,700 police personnel and 450 security cameras will keep an eye out for miscreants during the matches. The police personnel to be deployed also include six platoons of the Armed forces and the elite OCTOPUS commandos, Rachakonda police commissioner G Sudheer Babu said.
The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS) will hold its first match at 3.30 pm on March 23 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals. It is scheduled to host seven league matches and also host a qualifier match on May 20 and an eliminator tie the next day. Except the match on March 23, all other matches to be held here are night matches. The stadium has a capacity to seat 39,000 people.
Briefing the media, Sudheer Babu added that the stadium will be manned by personnel from different wings such as traffic personnel, law and order personnel, Special Branch teams, SHE teams, Central Crime Station teams and Special Operations Teams apart from tear gas parties, Mounted Police and those operating the Vajra water cannon vehicle.

He said that cameras were being installed in and outside the stadium including at checkpoints and parking areas. “A joint command and control Room is set up to monitor the surveillance cameras,” the commissioner said, adding that anti-sabotage teams would be on the ground until the match is over.
For safety and security of players and spectators, elaborate bandobust arrangements are being made in coordination with different wings, he said, adding that Gate No. 1 is exclusively for players and VVIP’s whereas, others are not allowed. Spectators are allowed through gates as per their ticketing, and the evacuation plan is ready for any emergency situation.
Prohibited items include laptops, banners, water bottles, cameras, cigarettes, electronic gadgets, matchboxes, lighters, sharp metal or plastic objects, binoculars, umbrellas, writing pens, batteries, helmets, perfumes, bags, and batteries.
