Madurai: Madurai is set to enhance its domestic air connectivity with the launch of an IndiGo flight to Vijayawada via Bengaluru from March 30. The new service will operate daily, catering to the growing demand for seamless regional connectivity.
At present, passengers travelling to Vijayawada must transit through Chennai, Bengaluru, or Hyderabad where they have to switch flights. In the new service, passengers can remain on the same aircraft at Bengaluru where it stops for 30 minutes before continuing its journey.
The flight will depart from Madurai at 8.15am, reach Bengaluru at 9.45am, and take off again at 10.15am, landing in Vijayawada at 11.55am. The return flight will depart from Vijayawada at 5.40pm, reach Bengaluru at 7:25pm, and take off at 7.55pm, arriving in Madurai at 9.20pm.
Apart from this, Madurai airport has domestic flights to Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Hyderabad. Welcoming the new service, M Rajesh, an airport enthusiast, said travel between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh will be much easier. “Now we have only connectivity to Telangana and Andhra through Hyderabad. The flight will boost business, tourism, and pilgrimage travel, further positioning Madurai as a key transit hub in southern Tamil Nadu,” he added.
