7-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari was a big moment in F1 history. It caused quite a surprise considering his fantastic years at Mercedes. And while he had a forgettable debut at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix at the start of the season, Lewis already has another ambition of designing a Ferrari road car. Lewis wants the new car to be a tribute to the legendary F40, and has already given it a name; F44 after his racing number. “One of the things I want to do is I want to design a Ferrari. I want to do an F44,” he confirmed in Australia. “Baseline of an F40, with the actual stick shift. That’s what I’m gonna work on for the next few years.” It is a given fact that Lewis has a lot of affection for the F40. He posed for photos with the iconic car outside Enzo Ferrari’s home on his first day with the team. The F40 has been one of the most iconic models in the Prancing Horse’s history. A successor to the 288 GTO, it was the last car personally signed off by Enzo Ferrari before he passed away in 1988. With most body parts made with carbon fibre, the car weighed a very low 1100 kg. The F40 was powered by was powered by a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V8 putting out 471 BHP. It did the 0 to 100 kph sprint in 4.1 seconds and had a top speed of more than 320 kph. It was one of the rawest supercars one could ever drive. Due to unprecedented demand, Ferrari made 1,311 units of the F40. It was later succeeded by the F50 in 1995.
