Guntur Mayor’s resignation accepted – The Hindu

The Guntur Municipal Corporation Council has unanimously accepted the resignation of Kavati Shiva Nag Manohar Naidu from the post of Mayor. Interim Mayor Sheikh Sajila announced the decision on Tuesday, stating that an emergency council meeting was held at the main office council hall to discuss the matter.

During the meeting, Ms. Sheikh Sajila explained that Mr. Manohar Naidu had submitted his resignation letter to the District Collector on March 15. The council convened to deliberate on the resignation, with 58 members in attendance, including ex-officio members. However, shortly after the session began, 26 YSRCP members, including two ex-officio members, staged a walkout. The remaining 32 members continued discussions and unanimously approved the resignation.

Municipal Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu confirmed that the resignation letter had been forwarded to the Collector, who instructed the municipal authorities to take further action. Standing committee members also recommended convening an emergency meeting to formally approve the resignation. The report on the decision has been sent to the State government and the State Election Commission for further procedures.

On March 21, the Andhra Pradesh government, appointed Deputy Mayor Sheikh Sajila as the interim Mayor until the election of a new Mayor. The emergency meeting was attended by MLCs Ch. Yesuratnam and Lella Appireddy, MLAs Naseer Ahmad and Galla Madhavi, deputy mayor Vanama Balavajrababu, TDP floor leader Kovelamudi Ravindra, and other officials from the municipal corporation.
