Hyderabad: A 33-year-old chef was taken into custody on Tuesday after he attacked a police constable with a broken beer bottle following a road rage altercation, police said.
The incident occurred in Banjara Hills, when the chef, riding a motorcycle, collided with another motorist, leading to a heated argument. As tensions escalated, a constable from Banjara Hills Police Station, who was on regular crime patrol, intervened to pacify the situation.
However, instead of calming down, the motorcyclist became aggressive, argued with the constable, and hurled abuses before fleeing the scene, officials stated.
The police later stopped the motorcyclist, but he attacked the constable with a broken beer bottle, causing serious injuries. The officer suffered lacerations on his head, nose, and left hand, a senior police official confirmed.
Following the attack, the police registered a case and arrested the accused. The injured constable received medical treatment and was discharged from the hospital after first aid.
Authorities are now investigating the incident further to determine if the accused was intoxicated at the time of the attack.
