The festival offers devotees a chance to introspect, offer prayers, do charity, advance their spiritual growth and seek divine blessings. Through sehri (suhoor) and iftar, devotees not only nourish their bodies, but also cultivate gratitude and patience. The fast serves a reminder to people that there are many less fortunate people out there and it encourages them to be more generous and compassionate. Giving zakat (charity) and feeding the needy are highly emphasised during this time.
