After Sankranti, the Tollywood box office has been relatively dull, which is usually expected during this period. However, this year, the slump has been even more noticeable.

In the past two months, only two Telugu films—Thandel and Court—have managed to become successful. Apart from these, the Tamil-dubbed Return of the Dragon also performed well. But most other films failed to make an impact.

Despite a steady flow of releases every week, very few films have caught the audience’s attention. The lack of proper occupancy has made it difficult for theaters to sustain themselves.

However, the upcoming weekend is expected to bring a turnaround. With the arrival of the Ramadan weekend, the box office is set for a revival, as multiple big releases from different industries are lined up.

In Telugu, Robin Hood and Mad Square are hitting the screens, both promising full-length entertainment. The promotional content, including the teaser, trailer, and interviews, has effectively conveyed the fun factor in these movies, trying to generate positive buzz. With students finishing their exams, there is a decent chance of a strong youth turnout for these films.

Meanwhile, L2: Empuraan from Malayalam and Veera Dheera Soora from Tamil are also promising action-packed commercial entertainers. Both films release on Thursday, followed by Robin Hood and Mad Square on Friday.

However, things don’t look too good for Veera Dheera Soora. There is not much awareness about the film even in Tamil, let alone in the Telugu states. Unless the word of mouth is spectacular, the film may not survive at the box office. Let’s hope the film turns out to be great for Vikram’s sake.

Additionally, Salman Khan’s Hindi film Sikandar, directed by Murugadoss and featuring Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead, is set for a Sunday release. Given Salman’s popularity in major Telugu cities, this film is also expected to open well despite an average trailer.

On paper, it looks like a great weekend for the box office, but how successful these films will be and how many people will actually turn up to watch them will only be known after the weekend.
