Justice J. Sreenivas Rao of Telangana High Court on Monday (March 24, 2025) issued notices to the State government in a criminal petition filed by retired IPS officer T. Prabhakar Rao, who is the first accused in the sensational telephone tapping case, seeking anticipatory bail in the case.
The judge gave one week time to Public Prosecutor for Home Palle Nageshwar Rao to file counter affidavit in the matter and posted the matter to April 1 for next hearing. Mr. Rao, according to police, left the country and flew to USA to escape from the consequences of the case relating to illegally tapping telephones of influential persons.
Mr. Rao, who is presently residing in USA, claimed that he had gone there for complete medical evaluation of heath, having undergone multiple surgeries to treat serious malignant tumour on tongue. He stated that investigation into the telephone tapping case was already completed and the charge-sheet was also filed. In this backdrop, there was no need for any investigative agency for his custodial interrogation.
He stated that he was ready to co-operate with the investigators in the case. The former chief Special Intelligence Branch maintained that he had no exclusive details pertaining to the case other than the records of the SIB office from where the alleged telephone tapping operation was conducted.
