Vijayawada: In a major boost to hotel and restaurant business in Vijayawada, city police have granted permission for eateries including hotels and dine-in restaurants to operate until 12 am.
According to hotel industry representatives, the move will benefit around 200 to 300 high-end restaurants in the city. It is noted that ever since the TDP-led alliance govt came to power, AP hotels association had been urging govt to allow eateries and restaurateurs to operate till midnight in order to serve tourists and citizens in the city better.
Speaking to TOI, AP hotels association president RV Swamy said that the association had made multiple requests to govt, including chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the DGP, to implement govt order (GO) MS No. 25, issued by previous TDP govt in 2018, allowing hotels to remain open until 12 am.
“Although previous TDP govt issued the GO, it was not implemented. The successive govt promised to enforce the GO in 2022, but no action was taken by then,” the hotel association president said.
In this regard, the hotel association had submitted a representation on World Tourism Day, urging govt to introduce a new, industry-friendly tourism policy and extend restaurant operating hours across the state. Swamy stated that the decision to allow restaurants to remain open until 12 am rested with the top police officials. The association met with Vijayawada commissioner of police (CP) SV Rajasekhara Babu and submitted a representation in this regard.
In response, the Vijayawada CP granted permission for restaurants to operate until 12 am on a trial basis for three months, starting Sunday.
