Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy skipped the ‘Dawat-E-Iftar’ event held at LB Stadium on Tuesday. This follows the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) decision to deny permission for the attendance of politicians at the State-sponsored gathering.
The restriction comes as the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in effect in Hyderabad for the upcoming biennial election to the Telangana Legislative Council from the Hyderabad Local Authorities Constituency.
In a circular issued by Tanuj Kumar, Under Secretary of the ECI, the poll body made it clear that the proposal to conduct iftar or dinner events across the state, including Hyderabad, was not approved. “The ECI has not acceded permission to the proposal to conduct iftar/dinner through the state including Hyderabad in connection with the holy month of Ramzan 2025”, the circular stated.
Meanwhile, the iftar celebrations at LB Stadium went ahead as planned on Tuesday evening, without the customary address by the Chief Minister.
